The AELG has undertaken a number of studies reviewing the effectiveness of emergency communication and coordination within the lifeline utility sectors and between lifeline utilities and Emergency Management agencies. Study reports are available by clicking on the link above.
The AELG has identified and mapped Auckland’s critical lifeline utilities and community sites to identify Priority Infrastructure Sites and Routes for recovery following a disaster. ‘Infrastructure Hotspots’ looked at areas where a number of critical infrastructure assets were co-located. The Auckland Engineering Lifelines Project (AELP) Phase 1 investigated the vulnerability of Auckland’s critical infrastructure to earthquake, volcano, tsunami and cyclone hazards. Phase 2 is currently being developed, refer to the Current Projects page. Summary reports are available by clicking on the link above.
Living on a volcanic plateau, much of our work has focused on understanding our infrastructure vulnerability to volcanic hazards and improving our ability to respond and recover. In recent years, the Volcanic Impacts Study Group has initiated and undertaken much of this work. Posters are available for infrastructure managers on how to respond to volcanic ash events. Lifeline utilities participated in Exercise Jaffa in 2005, the first Auckland CDEM Group Exercise in many years. The exercise highlighted the need for improved processes for coordination within the utility sector and between utilities and CDEM in an emergency. The Auckland CDEM Group has now engaged a Lifeline Utility Coordinator to support this coordination in the Group Emergency Operations Centre and developed Lifeline Utility Coordination Protocols. Exercise Marconi and Exercise Ruaumoko have been opportunities to test and improve these processes. Click on the link above to find out more ...
Other AELG work has included a Review of Resources for Response and Recovery of Lifeline Utilities, a Review of Regional Generator Resources, Guidance on developing Business Continuity Management Plans and a Framework to Implement Lifeline Strategies. Click on the link above to find out more…
